‘Midas Man’ Trailer Dives Into the Life of The Beatles’ Infamous Manager

After a tumultuous production, the long-awaited Brian Epstein biopic is finally ready for viewing. Midas Man endured a long road to success with two directors departing the project before Joe Stephenson finally settled in as the man who would helm it to the finish line. The Queen’s Gambit star Jacob Fortune-Lloyd plays Epstein, the man renowned for masterminding the meteoric rise of The Beatles into one of the greatest music bands ever. Midas Man will peel back the curtains on Epstein’s career as a music manager as well as shed light on his private life. Ahead of its anticipated release this fall, Prime Video has released its first trailer teasing what to expect.

Midas Mind presents a holistic portrait of a man who lived a short life but made the absolute most of it by passionately committing to his ambitions. The biopic will chronicle his journey from his days as a small-time Liverpool record store owner with a vision. With the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and more, Epstein proved to have quite the Midas touch, shaping the sound of a generation. But behind the dapper suits and charming charisma, Epstein battled personal demons and struggled with acceptance and love. The official synopsis describes his journey as “a rollercoaster of ambition, passion, and relentless pursuit of greatness.” His ultimate triumph was changing the face of music forever, but Midas Man will reveal more about the secrets that would eventually lead to his sudden death at the age of 32.

As the trailer reveals, Epstein was completely sold on the Beatles from the moment he watched them perform for the first time. He’s seen introducing himself to the original band members at the trailer’s start before proposing to become their manager. Despite the odds, Epstein was certain of his conviction as he can be heard rebuffing a disapproving music executive – “Those boys will be bigger than Elvis.” As the trailer further previews, Epstein gave the Beatles his all, working himself to a burn and clashing with his family en route turning his dreams a reality.

‘Midas Man’ Features An Ensemble Cast

Midas Man features performances from powerhouse names including Emily Watson and Eddie Marsan who both play Epstein’s parents. Lukas Gage plays Epstein’s lover, Tex Ellington, Bill Milner plays Epstein’s brother, while Rosie Day plays Cilla Black, who equally has Epstein to thank for her musical success. Stepping into the roles of The Beatles boys are Jonah Lees as John Lennon, Blake Richardson as Paul McCartney, Leo Harvey Elledge as George Harrison, and Campbell Wallace as Ringo Starr. Midas Man also features a surprise casting in TV host Jay Leno who plays Ed Sullivan, the host of The Ed Sullivan Show, which served as the entry point through which The Beatles exploded onto the American scene.

Midas Man will be released in the UK on October 30, but is yet without a US release. Check out the trailer above.

John Wick Producer Describes the “Mayhem” Behind Franchise’s Toughest Action Sequence

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

The John Wick franchise has been about as influential to the action movie landscape in the last decade as Zack Snyder’s 300. The films have only gotten more elaborate with each new installment, building dense lore alongside increasingly inventive set-pieces. In an interview with ScreenRant to celebrate the franchise’s 10-year anniversary, producer Erica Lee weighed in on the franchise’s toughest action sequences to shoot, and described one in particular as being “mayhem.” David Leitch, who co-directed the first John Wick with Chad Stahelski, credited his cohort for taking the series to the next level, and recalled the logistical challenges behind filming a car chase in the first film.

Lee said that each sequence comes with its own challenges, but the memorable Morocco-set set-piece in John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, which involved stars Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry alongside two dogs, was particularly difficult to shoot. And not for the reasons that one might expect. What took the crew by surprise was the sheer number of cats present on location, because it happened to be next to a fishing village. The cats were there because of the fish, but they ended up distracting the stunt dogs. Lee said that the crew had to create enclosures for the cats next to the set, so that the dogs could focus. In her own words:

“There were cats everywhere and dead fish everywhere, and the dogs were getting very distracted. So we had to build this cat hotel on the side of the set, and we were constantly wrangling the cats. And I just remember our call time that day was like 2:30 in the morning. Halle was a true champion. We had pushed the shoot because she had broken her ribs. It was just sort of mayhem in general. I say that was one of the more challenging kind of sections. But I mean, there’s honestly so many.”

Chad Stahelski Was Truly Cooking Up Some Wild Stuff in Morocco

Lee also highlighted the logistical difficulties of filming with horses in New York, and the challenges of filming the Arc de Triomphe sequence at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4. Leitch, on the other hand, highlighted the now-iconic staircase sequence in the fourth film as a “work of art.” He said, “It is just one of the most impressive feats of physical stunt performance that I’ve seen.” Sharing his own memories of punching above their weight class on the first film, he recalled how his and Stahelski’s background in stunt-work helped them maximize their vision. He said:

“We had a piece of car action in there where we were a little bit of car action at the docks and we created some cool camera mounts for Keanu to actually be driving. And then we had the moment of dumping the SUVs off into the dry dock and all of that stuff was things that they said you can’t afford, you’re not going to be able to afford it. We had to really count our pennies and sacrifice a day or two of budget to get those things in the movie, knowing what an action fans would want. We had to fight for that stuff. And normally that size movie, you wouldn’t have been able to do it. And if we didn’t have the experience of being stunt coordinators our own self, we probably wouldn’t have got it.”

The first John Wick, stylish as it was, was a relatively modest revenge thriller. But since then, the franchise has evolved into an epic saga of sorts; visually rich, immaculately staged, and massively successful at the box office. The four John Wick movies have all been critically acclaimed, and have grossed a combined total of over $1 billion worldwide. A fifth installment in the main series is being contemplated, but before that, Lionsgate will debut a spin-off titled Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas in the lead role alongside Reeves in an extended cameo. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

‘Conclave’ Domestic Box Office Hits New Benchmark Despite Limited Release

The drama-thriller Conclave retained a spot in the top five of the domestic box office in its second weekend of release, once again exceeding expectations. Conclave had a rather robust opening last week, and the movie followed it up with an equally impressive showing in its sophomore frame. After 10 days of release, the acclaimed crowd-pleaser has passed a new domestic box office milestone, setting itself up for greater success as the awards season unfolds.

Directed by Edward Berger, Conclave stars Ralph Fiennes as a cardinal tasked with overseeing the election of a new Pope. Conclave is based on a book by Robert Harris, whose past novels have been adapted into acclaimed films such as The Ghost Writer and Munich — The Edge of War, and also features Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini. The movie grossed a healthy $5.3 million this weekend, which represents a slight 20% decline from its $6.5 million opening weekend haul. Still playing in relatively limited release — the film’s theater count stands at just over 1,700, as compared to the 4,000-plus locations that Venom: The Last Dance is playing at — Conclave has now passed the $15 million mark domestically.

The movie was produced on a reported budget of $20 million and premiered at this year’s Telluride Film Festival. Conclaveopened to excellent reviews and currently sits at a “fresh” 91% rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. It also holds an impressive 84% audience score on the platform, in addition to a solid B+ CinemaScore. In his review, Collider’s Jason Gorber described Conclave as “tonally perfect,” and declared it to be “one of the best films of the year.”

‘Conclave’ Is a Hot Favorite for the Awards Season

Berger broke out with the acclaimed anti-war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, which debuted on Netflix a couple of years ago and emerged as a major awards magnet. It scored nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won the BAFTA for Best Film after securing a leading 14 nods. Berger will next direct a film starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton, also for Netflix. Fiennes, on the other hand, starred in the acclaimed black comedy The Menu a couple of years ago; the movie ended up grossing nearly $80 million worldwide. He will next star as Odysseus in a movie titled The Return.

You can watch Conclave in theaters, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
