Mão modelo ‘Talk to Me’ agora disponível em A24

Taron Egerton Matches Wits With Jason Bateman in ‘Carry-On’ Trailer

Taron Egerton is about to meet his match this holiday season. Coming off of last year’s biographical thriller Tetris, the Emmy nominee is soon set to star in Netflix’s high-stakes airport thriller Carry-On, where he’ll play an out-of-his-depth TSA agent working Christmas Eve. What should be a normal, safe day of travel for Christmas becomes a lot more complicated thanks to a mysterious passenger played by Jason Bateman. The streamer shared the full trailer today that further details the battle of wits between Egerton and the Ozark star as the young agent races to prevent unspeakable tragedy. The film is set to premiere in just over a month on December 13.

The new footage fleshes out Egerton’s character beyond a simple TSA agent. In a previous conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Egerton described the protagonist as unfulfilled, saying, “He’s unhappy at work at the airport and feeling flat and dejected about it. He’s also just found out his girlfriend is pregnant. So, he feels pressure to be a responsible father and provider, but I think he also feels a deep lack of fulfillment. So when he’s put in this terrible situation, he has a huge occasion to rise to.” However, he also calls him a sort of “hero in waiting,” something that becomes true when he meets the stranger. Bateman’s character blackmails him using his girlfriend’s life to force him to let a dangerous package through – “One bag for one life.” If the threat wasn’t clear enough, he emphasizes that Egerton has precious little time before everyone in the airport dies, sending the agent sprinting through the facility and pulling every string possible to neutralize the terrorist without getting anyone else harmed.

Bateman may be best known for his comedic efforts with Arrested Development and Zootopia, but he’s also shown he can take on darker dramatic roles like his Carry-On character. The Emmy-winning Ozark, which he also teamed with Netflix for, saw him as the mastermind of a massive money laundering operation in the Lake of the Ozarks region, while The Gift and The Outsider similarly placed him as twisted, untrustworthy figures. He and Egerton lead a starry cast that also features Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, and Sinqua Walls, with Gil Perez-Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson, and Josh Brenner.

Who Is Behind ‘Carry-On’?

Jaume Collet-Serra of Orphan and The Shallows fame directs Carry-On, bringing his penchant for high tension to the table. His most recent features, Jungle Cruise and Black Adam, teamed him up with Dwayne Johnsonto mixed results. For his latest, he joined forces with T.J. Fixman and Michael Green who bring some unique resumes to the table. While Fixman previously worked extensively as a writer on the widely beloved Ratchet & Clank series of video games through the 2016 remake and will make his feature debut with the new thriller, Green is an Oscar nominee known for co-writing Logan and Bladerunner 2049 as well as co-showrunning another Netflix animated darling in Blue Eye Samurai.

Carry-On premieres on Netflix on December 13. Check out the trailer in the player above.

The Crooked Man’ Gets Second Life With Blu-Ray Release This Christmas

It has been another shaky year for the comic book genre. While DC struggled at the box office with Joker: Folie à Deux and Sony’s live-action Spider-Verse still has an overall quality problem, one of the adaptations that went completely under the radar this fall was Hellboy: The Crooked Man. The film went straight to paid VOD last month and there wasn’t much to celebrate on the review side of the equation. It was another misfire for the popular Dark Horse Comics character, despite the film returning the franchise to its gothic horror roots. However, now we know when The Crooked Man is making its way to Blu-ray as it looks to heat up the upcoming Christmas season.

Released by Ketchup Entertainment, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, December 17th. That being said, Hellboy fans looking for special features are going to be disappointed. It appears there will be none included with either format. The Blu-ray will be $19.98 USD while the DVD is currently listed on Amazon for $21.09.

What’s ‘Hellboy:The Crooked Man’ About?

Based on Hellboy’s creator Mike Magnolia’s popular Crooked Man storyline, the film follows the famous supernatural cop (Jack Kesy) of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D) as he finds himself trapped in 1950s Appalachia with a rookie agent. To make matters worse, they’re in the middle of a community of witches run by the dreaded Cooked Man. Hellboy reluctantly teams up with the agent to get to the bottom of their new haunting reality, which is something that has ties to the hero’s horrific past. Even though Magnolia was heavily involved in this film creation, and it’s pretty faithful to the original comic run, Crooked Man was doomed from the start thanks to its straight-to-digital mistreatment. The film wasn’t helped by critics either, with it currently holding a less-than-stellar 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience popcorn meter fairs better with Crooked Man having a 58%. Both scores are also better than the 2019 theatrical reboot, but they’re nowhere as beloved as Guillermo del Toro’s 2000s duology. Hopefully, for the franchise’s sake, The Crooked Man will generate a larger audience with its physical media release.

Where Can you Stream ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’?

You can currently rent Hellboy: The Crooked Man on most paid VOD platforms, like Fandango at Home, for $6.99. You can also pre-order Crooked Man’s Blu-ray or DVD on Amazon. The trailer can be viewed below.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man follows Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent as they get stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. They discover a small community haunted by witches, led by the Crooked Man, a devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past.

Melissa Barrera-Led Horror Rom-Com ‘Your Monster’ Gets Digital Release Date

2024 has been another incredible year for horror with a great mixture of franchise returns and original night terrors to keep fans up screaming. Yet one sub-genre that has quietly made a gushing comeback this year has been the horror rom-com. That was thanks to the films like Lisa Frankenstein and Your Monster. The latter of which stars Scream’s Melissa Barrera. The oddball pair has become quite a double feature too. Now, after its short theatrical run, Your Monster is coming to digital later this week.

It has been announced that Your Monster will hit all paid VOD platforms on Tuesday, November 12. The film hit theaters on October 25 and, despite Barrera’s growing horror fanbase, it sadly didn’t take a big bite out of the box office. Your Monster only made $723,394 domestically. That’s even with the film being a hit on the festival scene throughout the year and it’s carrying a certified fresh 72% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score fared even better with an 82% on the Popcornmeter.

What Is ‘Your Monster’ About?

Your Monster follows an up-and-coming Boardway actress, Laura Franco (Barrera), whose cancer diagnosis leaves her life in chaos. She has to move back into her mother’s apartment, her aspiring director boyfriend, Jacob (Edmund Donovan), broke up with her, and he replaced her as the lead in the play he wrote specifically for her. If that wasn’t messed up enough, Laura discovers she has a literal monster (Tommy Dewey) living in her closet.

Despite their coldness towards each other at first, the unlikely pair eventually form a loving relationship that at times acts like a horror twist on the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. From director Caroline Lindy’s incredible direction that taps into rich throwback genre storytelling to the best performance of Barrera’s career, Your Monster is one of the best films of the year. It’s extremely entertaining, emotionally rich, and oftentimes funny as it explores a human being trying to learn to love themselves in a messed-up world. If you adored Lisa Frankenstein and need another horror rom-com to become obsessed with, you can’t go wrong with this joyful bloody treat.

Get Ready to Love ‘Your Monster’

You can currently pre-order Your Monster on VOD platforms like Fandango at Home for $14.99 USD to watch when it becomes available on November 12. The film will only be available for purchase with no rental option yet. While you wait to relive or watch the magic of Your Monster for the first time, the trailer can be viewed above.
